Our
Focus
Building a better West Virginia through social, economic and environmental
justice organizations.
Community
Shares of West Virginia
- Allows WV citizens the choice to donate through an alternative work
place giving program
- We're the result of cooperative efforts by various West Virginia non-profit
organizations that exist to build capacity and citizen support.
- Supports West Virginia grassroots non-profits.
- Provides a service to well needed and under funded programs in West
Virginia.
- More of your donations go directly to the causes you want to support.
Our
Members
Our members are working for West Virginia residents, providing support
for community improvement, citizen empowerment, the environment, education,
health, and economic and social justice issues.
Why
Community Shares is needed
People who are not members or donors of environmental or other groups
would often support these groups if only they knew about the groups
or how to support them conveniently. They may not have the time to volunteer,
nor to attend meetings, nor even the energy or inclination to write
public officials about their concerns. But if they knew how and where,
they would be inclined to contribute financially to the support of non-profit
organizations that advocate for justice issues important to them. The
groups, in turn, instinctively know that more people would support them,
given the opportunity, but lack the resources to reach significant numbers
of potential donors. This is where the Community Shares model can be
made to work for both individual donors and organizations.
